Reverb 10 | Prompt 8 | Beautifully Different

December 8 – Beautifully Different

“Think about what makes you different and what you do that lights people up. Reflect on all the things that make you different – you’ll find they’re what make you beautiful. (Author: Karen Walrond)”

Wow this is a hard one since I tend to be a person who can at times shy away from being different. For many year’s in my life I made the choice to blend in over standing out or making a statement. If I truly want to answer this post I might have to be brutally honest with myself.

– I am a mix of both technical and creative (Engineer by education, Event planner by day and Serial Hobbyist when I find the time!)
– I love the cold and would have my window open all year round if I could
– I am shy but relish in sharing my life on the web
– I love to travel but can really be a hermit at times!!
– I am a bowl of contradictions!

Okay none of these are overly interesting I really can’t think of anything overly exciting, sorry guys!

To close this off I would like to share one thing that I think lights people up; This is a tough one but I am going to make it simple and re-iterate what my Mother has told me for year’s and I think it is my SMILE 🙂 Thanks Mom!

I think this was the most difficult since I felt like I went in two different directions.

Maybe better luck with tomorrow’s prompt….

  1. I am a walking, talking Conundrum who somehow manages to teeter on the fine balance between two distinct things without falling over into either side.

Exercises like this are tough – because in spite of all that renders us unique and different, we're also all very much the same.

I wonder if 'older women' have an easier time with prompts like this than 'younger women'? I'm 46 years old, and only in the last several years have I honestly faced, and come to terms with, the many facets of my Self.

For what it's worth though Katie – you did a beautiful job capturing your brilliant Kaleidoscope Self. Thank you.

Suki and Allison, I'm going to read your reflections now …

  2. I know what you mean about the “bowl of contradictions.” I haven't gotten to writing my entry yet, but I think the most defining characteristic I have is that I defy definition. Of course, I don't think there's anyone alive who isn't contradictory in some regard. I think that person would probably be very boring. 😉

Sally– I think knowing oneself probably gets easier the older you are, no matter what. If nothing else, you've been acquainted with yourself longer! It depends on the person, though. I just turned 24 a month ago, and I think I have a pretty good grasp of myself, though I am also pretty sure I think about it much more than most people my age. (Does studying oneself qualify as a hobby? Haha.)

  3. It's hard to know what makes you different, right??

Thanks for stopping by my site 🙂 Will keep checking back for your updates as well!

Also, engineering education and now you're an event planner? VERY cool.

  4. Hi Fellow #reverb10(er)!

My mom always gave me the same advice about sharing out the smiles!;-) Something so easy, but can instantly change someone else's mood as well as your own in an instant!

    Happy writing!
